Who we are
Women With Wings is a non-audition women’s choir that started singing in the Rogue Valley in 1995. It was born out of a song circle led by women who envisioned a choir rooted in the joy of singing, not the perfection of the music. They were inspired to begin such a choir directly because of Judy Fjell who has been empowering women musically throughout her career including Summer Sing camps in Montana and Woman Making Music Camps in northern California. These camps continue today, nearly 30 years later.
Since the beginning of choir, we wanted to “encourage the woman next to us to sing”! We support women in their quest to find their voice, providing a safe environment to explore their voice without fear of criticism. Women are encouraged to take risks, like trying out a solo line or joining a small group. We are inspired to sing songs about the earth, peace and justice, feminism, inclusiveness, and community.
